In this course, designed for beginners or anyone wishing to explore short stories, participants will learn from published examples while applying short fiction techniques to their own writing. We will explore conflict, characterization, viewpoint, and description as they contribute to plot. This course is open to all writers who wish to grow and further their understanding of all aspects of the writing process: from early sketching and brainstorming, through the drafting and revising process, to copy-editing and publishing. Since audience is one of the most important aspects of writing, you will have an opportunity to share the content of your work with like-minded, aspiring authors in a constructive, acceptance-oriented, creative and vibrant writing group in search of effective writing methodologies. Course title: Sharing Life's Journey Through Memoir | begins Jan. 15, 2019 and will meet Tuesdays 1-3 p.m.
This 5-week workshop will meet at the Jewish Federation Center on Vanderbilt Road in Naples. Course listings will go out to members in September/October. Register early. The price is very reasonable, but seating is limited. You must be a member of the Women's Cultural Alliance to participate (class size is limited).

You sparked your writing by Exploring Life’s Journey. Now you’re ready to continue by Writing from the Heart in this 5-week Part 2 memoir course. Learn to fine-tune your writing whether your goal is memoir, journals and diaries, personal letters, family history, or personal experience pieces and essays. You’ll continue navigating through the islands of your memory, selecting and developing key events, and focusing on vivid description and developing a story arc to bring the people and drama alive. The result: engaging stories to share with family, friends, and other readers.
Course title: Advanced Memoir | begins Jan. 9, 2019 and will meet Wednesdays 9:30-11:30 a.m.
This advanced course continues what members of Sharing Life's Journey and Writing from the Heart leaned in 2017 and 2018. These classes are pre-requisites and you must receive permission from the instructor and the class liaison before registering.
All classes offered through WCA and meet at the Jewish Federation of Collier County offices on Vanderbilt Beach Road in Naples. Cost $75. Check your WCA bulletin for registration information and details.
