Writers Collaborative Workshop —4 weeks
4 sessions during season. First begins Jan. 21, 2019
Meets at Renaissance Academy (FGCU, Naples Center) | 1010 5th Ave. S (at 10th Street S)

A hands-on workshop, participants will share writing for feedback and also engage in discussion of the writing craft and profession at all levels, including the writing process, developing ideas, audience and reader engagement, effective revision techniques, and targeting specific genres and markets. Each week every participant reads an excerpt of work-in-progress for constructive critique and collaborative learning. Learn through works-in-progress and discuss the writing process, developing ideas, audience, reader engagement, and effective revision techniques. Click to register.

The Road to Publication

Your manuscript is revised and polished. Now what? Two avenues are open for publication—to find a traditional publisher or agent, or to self-publish. This class covers the steps for each option and overcoming the hurdles along the way. First, we’ll search for publishers and printers and what to look for in each. Next, we’ll work on query letters and proposals for traditional publishers/agents, what to send, and how to pitch. Finally, we’ll look at the steps for self-publishing including what to expect, how to find the best fit, and pricing levels. Click for registration details.

This course provides an overview of the 3 Ps of authorship: pitching, publication, and book promo. First we’ll look at how to find publishers for your project, whether you’re writing articles or books. Then we’ll determine what they want and how to pitch our manuscripts. Finally, we’ll explore contract basics, what to expect during the book printing stages, and how to promote yourself and your publications as a writer. NOTE: this is not a critique class in which your writing/excerpts are shared for feedback. This focuses on the post-revision, publication, and post-publication stages. Course title: Sharing Life's Journey Through Memoir | begins Jan. 15, 2019 and will meet Tuesdays 1-3 p.m.

​This 5-week workshop will meet at the Jewish Federation Center on Vanderbilt Road in Naples. Course listings will go out to members in September/October. Register early. The price is very reasonable, but seating is limited. You must be a member of the Women's Cultural Alliance to participate (class size is limited).

Course title: Writing From the Heart | begins Jan. 9, 2019 and will meet Wednesdays 1-3 p.m.
You sparked your writing by Exploring Life’s Journey. Now you’re ready to continue by Writing from the Heart in this 5-week Part 2 memoir course. Learn to fine-tune your writing whether your goal is memoir, journals and diaries, personal letters, family history, or personal experience pieces and essays. You’ll continue navigating through the islands of your memory, selecting and developing key events, and focusing on vivid description and developing a story arc to bring the people and drama alive. The result: engaging stories to share with family, friends, and other readers. 

Course title: Advanced Memoir | begins Jan. 9, 2019 and will meet Wednesdays 9:30-11:30 a.m.
This advanced course continues what members of Sharing Life's Journey and Writing from the Heart leaned in 2017 and 2018. These classes are pre-requisites and you must receive permission from the instructor and the class liaison before registering.

Enrollment is limited. In this class, we will complete several fun in-class activities to demonstrate how to add intriguing plot twists and turns to a story or novel. We will discuss story arc and pacing plus the essential details for plotting: character motivation/desire, action, and temporary resolutions. Course title: Writing From the Heart
You sparked your writing by Exploring Life’s Journey. Now you’re ready to continue by Writing from the Heart in this 5-week Part 2 memoir course. Learn to fine-tune your writing whether your goal is memoir, journals and diaries, personal letters, family history, or personal experience pieces and essays. You’ll continue navigating through the islands of your memory, selecting and developing key events, and focusing on vivid description and developing a story arc to bring the people and drama alive. The result: engaging stories to share with family, friends, and other readers.

Gear up to meet your writing goals for the new year. Winter class schedules are out and registration is open for writing classes offered January through April in Naples. Fla. This year I'm offering workshops and classes at THREE venues--The Renaissance Academy, Adult and Community Education (ACE), and at the Jewish Federation of Collier County through the Women's Cultural Alliance.
